Dutch dance music scene tops half a billion euros

The economic value of the Dutch dance music scene tops half a billion euros

2013 marked 25-years of dance music in The Netherlands, a milestone which was celebrated extensively during the year, culminating with number of special events at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). The anniversary celebrations emphasized the leading role that the Netherlands plays in the global dance music industry. With the year now fully passed and Miami Music Week about to kick off with many Dutch DJs taking the stage, it seems the perfect time to reveal some fascinating new facts and figures about the Dutch Dance Music industry.

At the end of the summer in 1988, house music exploded in The Netherlands. Since those days of exploring and pioneering, The Netherlands developed as one of the world’s leading countries for dance music, dj’s and events with the Dutch dance scene generating over half a billion euros (587 million) every year. Dutch artists continue to dominate awards like the DJ Mag Top 100 with acts like Hardwell, Armin van Buuren and Tiësto winning over half of the awards since the poll began 17 years ago. But it’s not only Dutch EDM that continues to flourish, as the underground scene also produces some of the most celebrated artists and labels in electronic music today.

Leading Dutch DJs Afrojack, Armin van Buuren, Chuckie, Hardwell, Joris Voorn, Nicky Romero, Tiësto, Tom Trago and many others will perform at venues across the city during the Miami Music Week. As we draw closer to the event let’s take a look at some newly released facts and figures about the Dutch dance scene.
