DIFFERENT IS REBORN

[PIAS] RELAUNCH ICONIC ELECTRONIC LABEL

After a 3-year hiatus, the Different Recordings imprint is reborn. [PIAS]’s own electronic imprint is back with a new family of signings for 2015. It’s the start of a new era for Different, as the label looks to champion a fresh crop of forward thinking, electronic artists.

Previously, the label has been responsible for releasing some seminal dance records; game changers like Etienne De Crecy’s original Super Discount and Vitalic’s massively influential OK Cowboy.  There have also been big records from Tiga, Crystal Castles, Agoria, Crystal Fighters, The Hacker and more.  It’s a label, which has been involved, in culturally important electronic music since its inception, and in the process has been the soundtrack to countless late nights all over the world.

Different has always been at the forefront of new music and at its most successful when it has been at its most relevant. So this is Different, but a new, reinvigorated Different. A fresh approach for now, once again nurturing new and innovative electronic music.

Different is excited to announce its first new signings as super-hot German House act Claptone, new NYC/Dublin hip house act Bon Voyage, and French electro-psych-ers DBFC. The labels’ music policy will be led by A&R Russell Crank; a musician, manager and lifetime electronic music addict. Of the re-launch Russell said “It’s such a pleasure to be at the steering wheel of one of my favourite all time labels, and excited to write a new chapter in it’s long, rich history.’

Whilst the new Different is proud of its roots in club music, it will be equally concerned with making music that sounds as good on the train as it does on the dancefloor. The label will work with exciting, progressive album artists, across of a range of musical styles, all tied together under a simple ethos; forward thinking electronic music.

Kenny Gates, co-founder and CEO of [PIAS] said, “Ever since we founded [PIAS] over 30 years ago electronic music has been one of the cornerstones of our output. We have always had a deep love for it in all its forms and it is very much part of our company’s DNA.  I am delighted, therefore, that we are re-launching the Different label, which after 3 years away is back with a simple remit; to find, develop and release the best new electronic music from around the world.”
