Chrysalis Records hires John Dyer as new MD



Chrysalis Records, the legendary label founded in the 60s and reborn in 2016, has hired John Dyer as Managing Director. Dyer will be charged with the day to day running, creative and strategic direction of the label.

Dyer was most recently Director of Operations at Domino Records. Prior to that he was GM of PIAS Recordings UK and also worked for Mute Records as their Marketing Manager. He began his career working in the sales teams for Rough Trade and London Records.

Jeremy Lascelles, CEO Chrysalis Records said, "John’s track record speaks for itself. He has worked for many of the leading independent labels and in his recent spell at Domino, a company we much admire, he has worked with and helped to break some of the most exciting, important British bands of the last decade. He will be a huge asset here at Chrysalis Records and is an indication of the ambitions we have for the label."

John Dyer, MD Chrysalis Records said, “It had to be a very special company and challenge for me to make a move and taking on the MD position at Chrysalis fulfills both those criteria. The company is packed with talented people and of course has an amazing history. It will be a privilege to take the label forward and work with the current and future artists."

In further news, Dermot James has been appointed General Manager. He will be responsible for logistical, operational, administrative and royalties across all the portfolio including Chrysalis Records, Blue Raincoat Songs and Blue Raincoat Artists. Dermot has previously worked for Virgin Records, Warners and Global Talent Publishing.

Chrysalis Records, one of the leading British independent labels responsible for shaping the global music industry, was bought in 2016 in a deal led by Blue Raincoat Music’s Jeremy Lascelles and Robin Millar CBE. The agreement saw the co-founder and original owner of Chrysalis Chris Wright CBE, reunited with the legendary label as Non Executive Chairman.

Artists on the roster include The Specials, Sinead O’Connor, The Waterboys, Ten Years After, Suzi Quatro, Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Steve Harley, Debbie Harry, Fun Boy Three, Ultravox, Generation X, the Two Tone label and many more.
