BPI AWARDED £90,000 FROM ARTS COUNCIL TO HELP PROMOTE BRITISH MUSIC OVERSEAS
23 July 2015 - Press releaseMusic body, BPI, has successfully secured £90,000 from Arts Council England to promote music from English artists overseas.
The award is part of the International Showcasing Fund delivered by Arts Council England in partnership with the British Council.
The funding, which aims to grow new markets and audiences abroad for arts and culture from England, will be used by the BPI to host music showcases in Los Angeles as part of its annual Sync Licensing Mission.
The 11th Mission, managed jointly with the Music Publishers Association and UK Trade & Investment, saw 45 delegates from UK independent labels, publishers, and sync agents as well as individual songwriters, authors and composers meet with TV, film, advertising, video games and trailer house executives in the renowned Capitol Studios in the heart of Hollywood last week (13th – 17th July 2015)
Commenting on the funding award, BPI Director of International and Independent Membership – Chris Tams – said,
"The Arts Council funding is another string to our bow when it comes to promoting British music abroad. We hope it will build on the success of our global trade missions and the positive results we are seeing already from our Music Export Growth Scheme which helps artists from across the UK tour overseas.
"Given the demand for British music in the US – not just from fans but from entertainment companies looking for "sync deals" – Los Angeles seemed like the obvious place to launch our showcases. The Northern Irish showcase we hosted with Generator NI this year in LA allowed us to dip our toes in the water and we can't wait to get back out there next year with more great talent."
Final details of the funding are yet to be revealed with more information due to be released shortly.
