BPI AGM 2015 ANNOUNCED FOR 9TH SEPTEMBER

Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Rt. Hon. John Whittingdale OBE MP confirmed as keynote speaker

The BPI’s Annual General Meeting will take place on September 9th 2015 in the Riverside Rooms of the trade body’s County Hall London base.

An introduction and welcome will be given to BPI members and guests by Ged Doherty – the first in his capacity as BPI & BRIT Awards Chairman since joining the organisation at the start of the year.

Chief Executive Geoff Taylor will also make an address prior to introducing Secretary of State for Culture, Media & Sport, Rt. Hon. John Whittingdale OBE MP, who will deliver this year’s keynote speech.

The event will be followed by the BPI’s Annual Reception, which will feature a number of live performances, including from Parliamentary Rock group MP4.  The full line up of confirmed guest artists will be announced shortly.

The BPI AGM 2015 will, as usual, include the election of candidates to the BPI Council.  In line with its rotational policy there are currently four vacant positions for independent label members to be filled and two for major label members.   A strong field of candidates is standing to represent independent members on Council – the shortlist of 12 names is one of the largest on record and includes many new faces.

BPI & BRIT Awards Chairman, Ged Doherty, comments:

“I’m really looking forward to welcoming our members and, of course, the Secretary of State to this year’s AGM and reception, not least as this will be my first as Chairman.  The overriding theme to this year’s event will be the vital importance of the UK’s music ecosystem, which all of us in this industry must work together to protect and promote if artists and labels are to carry on thriving both here at home and around the world.

“I am delighted too that we have one of the largest ever and most diverse fields of candidates standing to represent our label members on the BPI Council.  It’s always good to have new faces and fresh ideas and it says a great deal about the robust health and vibrancy of the community of labels that we are here to support.”
